The women’s final, which will have Gauff face world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, caps off a record-breaking US Open where not only attendance surpassed previous years, but so did demand and even ticket prices. The average ticket price this year is $365, which is slightly higher than last year’s ticket price of $350. The US Open ends Sunday with the men’s final, which StubHub said is the best-selling match for the whole two-week tournament. It’s not just ticket prices that are through the roof — so are sales of the beloved signature cocktail of the tournament.

Sarefo / Wikimedia Commons In pictures: Invasive species around the world Prev Next‘Prevention, prevention, prevention’Along with invasive species, other key drivers of biodiversity loss include destruction of land and sea habitats, exploitation of organisms, climate change and pollution. As well as flammable invasive plants sparking and spreading wildfires, climate change is enabling invasive species to move north – even to remote areas such as high mountains, deserts and frozen tundra. Preventing the arrival of new species into new regions is the best way to manage threats from invasive species, according to the report. For invasive species that have already taken hold, eradication has been a useful tool, especially on islands, according to the report.

The Season’s Hottest Accessory: The Honey Deuce Cup
  + stars: | 2023-09-02 | by ( Sara Ziegler | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
Sometimes it sits alone on a table at the U.S. Open or in the grip of a thirsty tennis fan. Often it is stacked, maybe in a pair, maybe in a precariously balanced tower. Everywhere you look is the familiar clear cup of the Honey Deuce. For a while, columns of Honey Deuce cups were all that Christine Dinisi saw when she opened her cupboard while looking for a water glass. The Honey Deuce, made of Grey Goose vodka, raspberry liqueur and lemonade, and garnished with honeydew melon in the shape of tennis balls, has been the signature cocktail of the U.S. Open since 2006.

Each year, a rotating list of produce is tested by USDA staffers who wash, peel or scrub fruits and vegetables as consumers would before the food is examined for 251 different pesticides. Kale, collard and mustard greens contained the largest number of different pesticides — 103 types — followed by hot and bell peppers at 101. Concerned consumers can consider choosing conventionally grown vegetables and fruits from the EWG’s Clean 15, a list of crops that tested lowest in pesticides, the report said. When last tested in 2014, blueberries contained over 50 different pesticides. Testing in 2020 and 2021 found 54 different pesticides — about the same amount.
